Resources Used by People with Hearing Disabilities to Cope with Emergency Situations

Introduction: People with hearing disabilities (PwHDs) face many challenges in their everyday lives, as environments were not designed to accommodate needs. They may have a communication disability well disability. To cope, PwHDs rely on the assistance of others, communities, technology, and personal resources. In emergency situations become greater resources scarcer. Method: This study was conducted from November 2018 through July 2020. A mixed-methods approach consisting in-depth interviews online quantitative surveys Israel used. The qualitative part enquired about they used cope during emergencies obstacles faced. Grounded theory for analysis findings. focused perceptions self-efficacy, methods communication, accessibility services situations. participants deaf or hard individuals, those who aids and/or had cochlear implant, individuals chose use them. excluded people over 60, because we didn’t suffer loss caused by age. survey accessible Israeli sign language using Qualtrics platform. statistical SPSS ver.23. Results: PwHDs’ coping identified classified under four categories. 1. Characteristics PwHD: type, (sign language, read lips, speech) services. 2. Personal resources: Independent self-efficacy. 3. Time event: Daytime nighttime. 4. emergency: vs. collective. Conclusion: emergencies. Results can help develop standards places providing both day night that will allow communicate independently.
